As a business startup, you want to save money and time while still archeiving top quality in your work.  Here is a list of ten freewares or free resources that any business startup should take a look at.  (Just google the names of the freebies and you will be able to find them in seconds.)

1)   OpenOffice (Word Processing) – It’s a perfect replacement for Microsoft Office.  True, many of you mayfind Microsoft Office much easier to use because you have been using it for years.  But as a startup, using OpenOffice does saves you a lot of money.

2)   WordPress (Blog / Website maker) – You will need a company website.  WordPress is a tool for you to easily setup a website that can be updated by anyone with no other skills other than word processing.  You can even just pay $15 per year and let WordPress do domain registering and web hosting for you.

3)   Google Apps (Email and Google Calendar) – The two most important components packed in the Google Apps are “Gmail for Organization” and “Google Calendar”.  “Gmail for Organization” is basically using the typical gmail system and interface to host your company’s email.  Google Calendar is a scheduling system that you can share with your coworkers.

4)   GIMP (Image Manipulation) – If you don’t have the money to buy Photoshop, just use GIMP.  It doesn’t make any difference unless you are an advanced graphics designer.

5)   WinRAR (file compressing and uncompressing) – You need to do file compressing and uncompressing of different file formats everyday.  WinRAR deals with most popular formats.

6)   ESET Online Scanner (virus and spyware scanning and removal) – It’s more effective than most expensive virus removal software.  Enough said.

7)   VLC Media Player (video player) – You can play files of almost any file formats with this video player.

8)   FileZilla (FTP file uploading and downloading) – It helps you easily download files from or upload files to your clients’ FTP server.  You can also setup your own FTP server with this tool.

9)   CamStudio (Screen Recording) – It simply records whatever happening on your computer screen and turns it into a video file.  How is that useful for a startup?  Just imagine how useful it is for making promotional videos to post on Youtube or making demostration videos for showing your clients and partners.

10)  Stock.xchng (Free Stock Photo) – You do need nice looking images for your blog, website or presentations.  At Stock.xhng, you can download images of high quality for free and use it legally in your websites and presentations.
