How to choose a web hosting site?

GET HOSTING FOR 1 Cent! USE CODE: JURY

I have an idea for a website that i think will grow very fast. the site would be similar to face book but more specific and marketed only to a particular but very large group. Will a go daddy or in motion type of hosting work? I have the idea, I have no clue how to start.

I’m not sure, buy you could always contact Godaddy.com and ask them.
I have spoken with a few different people from godaddy.com and they have always given me advice, even if it does not include their business.

    Good Luck

I would carefully look at the complement of free auto install applications the host offers, Fantastico is a popular collection offered by many hosts, if you can initially fit a standard form, perhaps using a standard free forum software, you could more quickly get to the business of building a site. Godaddy hosting is nothing nothing, all the services advertise ridiculous space for your money, though some will find a reason to kick you off of you actually utilize the capacity, they make the money from sticking lots of sites that actually have little traffic onto a shared server. Spend some time in te webmaster forums to get the work from people who have tried multiple hosts.

An alternative way to test your concept (if indeed that’s all you have at this point) is the free network creating system ning.com, you can select which functions it has with member avatars and individual blogs standard features. If it turns into something, you can pay for some professional ning feature options, like a custom domain and ad removal.

I recommend one of these: http://www.tophostingpicks.com

iPage has the best offer right now.
Their standard price is $84/year ($6.95) but they have
a 50% sale, one year of hosting for $42.00.

    Their plan includes:

    Unlimited disk space
    Unlimited bandwidth
    Free domain name

    Price: $42/year ($3.50)

They have one of the most popular hosting platforms, which currently hosts over a million websites. They’re also one of the oldest hosting companies, founded in 1998.

They include a free point & click online site builder so you can create a website without any programming (easily, just by drag and drop) or you could install Wordpress (they include easy, one click install from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content.

They also have a great custom control panel with OneClick installs of all the popular software like Wordpress, Joomla, Forums, Chat, Galleries, Online stores and a lot more.

Or you can code everything yourself, of course.

    i suggest you http://www.zbyte.org ..
i’ve worked on big sites for my clients and i’ve found zbyte to be one of the best due to their superb technical support.. any problem! they are up with a solution!..
i had problems with mass mailing with godaddy .. so i shifted to zbyte and came to know that most web host have problems with mass mailing as it is associated with spaming and they provided me info about google apps and gave me full info about how to use it for mailing n stuff!!..
no space problems and no technical difficulties

my other suggestion would be webhostingpad.com .. but its not good with the server speed.. bit slow ..i think they put a lot of domains on one server!

  • CaymanHost:

If your predictions are right and you anticipate a heavy traffic and server load you may soon run into difficulties with many shared hosting plans.

Presumably you have a script in mind for your site? If you do it might be worth contacting a few hosts to discuss your plans directly with them, rather than listening to a lot of people trying to sell you a hosting plan based on what’s in it for them ;-) This is also a good way to guage how good a company’s customer support is.

Some of the recommendations already made are not that good IMHO. It sounds to me as though you are probably going to need a VPS or even a dedicated box if you are serious about the anticipated traffic, type of site and probable CPU and server loads resulting from it.

There are plenty of decent hosting firms out there but a lot of duds too – you need to find one who can cope with your planned site both now and in the future so choosing carefully at the outset is of paramount importance. I say this time and again when I see people suggesting that users visit “top ten” hosting sites etc. There is no such thing – hosting plans are never “one size fits all” so beware the marketers who are just looking to make a fast buck. Do your research and don’t believe anyone who tells you who is the best host – what you need to ascertain is who is the best host FOR YOU.

There are plenty of forums and experienced webmasters out there who can offer you guidance, but once you have a shortlist, go and ask some pointed questions to the companies themselves to help narrow down your choice.

Good luck in your venture :-)

    Hi!

It’d be best to pay for web hosting as those free sites are pretty rubbish. When selecting a web host it’s a good idea to find one that does not “oversell” meaning they can provide the data they’re advertising to guarantee that the server wont be bogged down and slow. I suggest using http://www.datadrive.co.nz as they’ve made it pretty clear they don’t oversell. You pay in New Zealand Dollars (really cheap for Americans) but the servers are in the states!!

You got to check for the uptime and the features a web hosting provider gives with the web hosting plans. When you want to make your website available on the internet you can host it online on a web hosting server. I’d recommend you to check out FatCow, as it offers very fast and highest uptime website hosting deals. I’ve hosted a few websites on their servers, so far no problems at all. Their technical support at the server end is very prompt and they are quick in any resolution. >> http://www.webhostingbreak.com/fat-cow-coupon/

Choose the right hosting plan based on the type of business.
The 10 main characteristics you need to think before you choose the right web hosting plan for your type of business are
1.Disk Space: A measure of the quantity of a Web server’s storage space allocated to each Web hosting customer.
2.Control Panel: Interface provided by the hosting company for the maintenance and monitoring of the hosted website.
3.Domain : A domain name is the name of a person’s or organization’s website on the Internet.
4.SSL Certificate: The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is for managing the security of a message transmission on the Internet.
5.Site Builder: If you don’t have any idea of how to build your website, your web hosting plan should help you do so.
6.24 x 7 Support : A dedicated team to deal with technical questions and problems with the software system
7.Dedicated IP: If you are planning to host your site on any dedicated IP address then its location never changes.
8.Uptime: It is the percentage of time that your website will be viewable.
9.Bandwidth: If you are planning for a website that will attract a number of visitors and would involve a lot of downloading or uploading then you need to choose a Web Host plan that comes with Unlimited Bandwidth.
10.Email Accounts: It is the number of email accounts permitted for hosting plan. For Example :yourname@yourdomain.com

If you are trying to make a professional dynamic website where you get 1000’s of visitors everyday then you will definitely need a good amount of Disk space(mostly unlimited), unlimited domains, unlimited bandwidth, databases, SSL Certificate and unlimited email accounts.

If you are trying to build a static website for your company, you need lesser (unless you have plans to expand your website), a single email account to help you out with a contact form and also a Site Builder tool to help you out design simple web pages.
