7 Top Reasons to Start an Internet-marketing Business

By Pinaki Ghosh

If your job sucks, you have faith in yourself, and have the mindset that champions have, simply kick-off your very own internet-marketing business from home. All you need is a few hundred dollars to invest, a couple of freelance-coders to hire (your own technical knowledge would be an added advantage) and you are ready to start with your internet based business from home. You may start with a site to sell ebooks, or auction online, or simply give unique, good content and earn from advertisements. It is absolutely free to start accepting payments using PayPal. Remember, most of the internet-based giants of today started from their garages in a very small way just like you. Here are 7 rock-solid reasons why you should give home-based-internet-business from home a serious thought.

1. Freedom of work hours: No more rushing out at 8:30AM like crazy while being halfway through your breakfast. No more giving excuses to the boss for being late. Fix your own convenient work-hours. If you wish to work for 3 hours from home (suppose if you choose to continue you job and business at the same time) no one will force to work extra time. You can yourself conveniently fix your work days and work-hours and manipulate them.

2. No fixed work-place: Be free to work from anywhere. Most of the work of internet marketing business is PC based and it can be carried to almost anywhere in the world. You will never be glued to one place and can freely move anywhere. You can also take vacations and still not hamper your work at all.

3. Cheapest way to start a business: You will never have to invest thousands of dollars like other traditional businesses to start a home-based-internet-business. You do not need a posh office at an expensive locality and decorate it with furnishings. To run a website, all it costs is as low as $1.99 to $9 /year for domain name registration, and anything between $3 to $12 /month as web-hosting charges. Working as a freelancer or blogger is even cheaper and costs almost nothing.

4. Students can work and study at the same time: It is one of the most convenient businesses for students who can conveniently divide and manipulate their study and work time.

5. Market is international: Could you ever imagine of getting an international market if you would have opened a ‘brick-and-mortar’ confectionary store? While most traditional businesses offer only a small local market, an internet-marketing business offers you a much larger market which is international. You will find visitors and buyers from various countries.

6. Suitable for all ages: While jobs have lots of restrictions with ages and hierarchy, an internet-based business can be successfully carried out by adults of all ages; whether you are a student, or in mid-life, or have retired.

7. Six figure earning: Answers dot com clears the misconception of some skeptics who believe that it is not possible to earn large figures from home-based-internet-marketing business.

www.Answers.com says that many people, who have the capacity to stick to their business, are likely to achieve 6 figure incomes, and majority of the people will quite easily achieve higher 5 figure incomes. Another great advantage of this business is that help and guidelines are always at hand. Anyone who knows to use the internet knows how to gather helpful information within minutes when you are stuck. Sites like Wikipedia.org are great storehouses of almost all types of information, while sites like Yahoo Answers are where you can ask specific questions and get tailor-made answers from real people (read, experts) from the industry.

The Fastest Way to Get Your Blog Noticed by People

Copyright (c) 2008 Dock J Murphy

Traffic is always a problem with a blog or website. Thanks for giving info on how to increase more traffic. Traffic/customers are everything. The more people you expose your business to, the more chances that your business will sale.

Titles don’t easily work for me. Since I don’t do incoherence, it often took far more effort to title an entry than to write it. Title tags that are short, snappy, on-topic and catchy are imperative. You also want to think about search engines when you title your posts, since the engines can help to drive traffic to your blog.

Linking certainly doesn’t guarantee you’ll appear, since all posts are run though the usual tests for newsworthiness. In fact, extra steps to avoid spam are now in effect since faked referrals and splogs are already commonplace. Linking to prominent bloggers helps because they then see your blog in their ego feed and will probably take a look. Commenting also is a great way to get more exposure, and not just from the person whose blog you’re commenting on, but also from those who follow that person’s blog. Link to other blogs and post about other blogs. Let them know you’ve linked to them.

Link liberally and eventually someone might notice you. You can even send emails to bloggers telling them about your new site or post. Links to your site from other sites will boost your rating in search engines. Also, you want people who visit similar websites to cross over to yours. Link to other blogs from your blog. Outbound links are one of the cheapest forms of marketing available.

Commentors set the atmosphere of your site almost as much as you do. Don’t be worried about traffic… there are 99 good conversation people for every 1 troll… ultimately your comments section will be a better and more inviting place for new readers if you moderate. Comments should be respectful of other voices in the discussion. I reserve the right to edit or delete comments at my discretion. Comment on other people’s blogs as much as you can (without spamming). In most cases you can put a link back to your own blog and people do follow these links.

Search rankings are affected by site performance, especially server downtime. And sites like StumbleUpon, which can deliver significant traffic, will stop sending it altogether if the server is unresponsive for even a very short time. Search on the iPhone client is now improved and full-featured; you can search on any combination of keywords, tags and attributes. We replaced that icon to the right of the search box that no one understood. Searchers look for stories in their own locale, so anything I label “Waianae Coast” gets a lot of local traffic. Your neighbors have the same curiosity about the place you call home.

Social networking, self organizing, loosening the “rules”. Social networks connect people with all different types of interests, and one area that is expanding in the use of these networks is the corporate environment. This makes them searchable and be connected to other business professionals.

Domain Name Affects Adsense Earnings

There are many factors that affect your google adsense earnings. One of the major factors is the domain name you select for your website where you put your google adsense ads for revenue. It is because search engines are URL sensitive; sensitive in way that the best domain names will always rank higher in search engines, and your major earning comes from organic traffic. If you have a good domain name for your website it’ll attract more traffic from search engines and hence you revenue will also be increased.

Now I’ll try to cover some basic and most discussed issues related to domain names here.

What if you’re Using Blogspot Like me!

If you are using blogspot, its good as google has total control over blogspot sub-domains, so it’ll be easier for you to rank in google but this will take much quality content for higher ranking which is quite time consuming. So, I’ll advise you to buy a good domain name and link it to your blogspot if you like blogspot or, you can have a good web-hosting and establish a new website.

How to Choose a Good Domain Name!

The first thing you should do is to do a little research on keywords that reflect you website content. Select about 10-15 top keywords related to your website content and after that start rejecting the keywords by matching exactly to your website content till there are left about 2-3 keywords. Now you can blend 2 or 3 keywords to make an attractive keyword.  That will be the domain of your website.

The domain name should be based on the type of content you want to have for your website. For example, if you have a website based on body fitness and slimming, you can choose www.slimfit.com . Similarly, if your website is based on software and games, you can choose www.softgames.com .

If you need a top quality domain, you should focus on .com domain and try to find your domain name that you selected in this category. If you don’t find your targeted domain name in .com category, go to .net and gradually down.

Where to Buy Affordable Domains!

There are many companies that are offering top quality domains and many of them are also providing low cost domains like .info domain.

.com and .net domains are top quality domains however there prices are high. If you want a low cost domain name you can focus on .info domain which is the cheapest domain in the market.

The best place to buy domains seems to me is GoDaddy which also offer good web hosting. You can have a look on chart of domains right here: http://www.godaddy.com

Other good domain providers which I came across during my research are:

https://www.bluehost.com

http://www.juicyhosting.com

http://www.locodomains.com

Now as you’ve come to know the basics of choosing a domain name, you should be able to select an affordable and good domain name for your website. Your google adsense earning really depends on the domain name and you’ll really feel the difference before and after the new domain for your website.

Getting Ranked in Google

Once you have created your web site you need to get Ranked by Google and the other search engines, and more importantly, ranked highly in Google and the Search Engine Result Positions SERPs.  Search engine optimization (SEO) has been compared to an art form, and while it is true that due to the changing ranking algorithms of Google and the major search engines it is not an exact science, but there are some tried and tested methods which will help you towards that coveted first page position.

We will first look at on site SEO, and then move onto external factors such as in links and social bookmarking.

Google will tell you that content is king, that if you build a great site that people find, informative, remarkable, useful or just plain funny then people will link to you, this is  very true, but it doesn’t hurt – infact it helps immeasurably if that content is optimized for the specific keywords you are targeting.  You need to be careful not to spam the search engines as this will get you penalized, so a healthy key word concentration of between 2.5 – 6% should be enough to let the search engines know what your site is about with out compromising your visitors experience.

So choose your keywords and use them well within your content , make sure you make proper use of header1 and header2 tags as the engines place more weight on keywords contained within header tags, you should not however put the whole page within the header1 tag as this will annul the effect.

Once you have optimized your content it is time to look at your meta data:

1. Make sure your keywords are in your title.
2. Make sure your key words are well used in your description.
3. Make sure your keywords are in your keywords section.

The really important one here is the title, rumors abound of the engines ignoring keywords, and description metadata, but since your meta description will be displayed in the listings along with the title it is worth including yor keywords anyway as this will show your relevance to the web surfer.

The next thing to look at is your URLs many content management systems such as Blogging software naturally creates dynamic URLs, by this I mean something along the lines of index.php?Type=0&x=5&y=0.1&z=1&submit=search, this tells the search engines nothing about your site, your pages will still get spidered, but you lose an important place to position another key word, fortunately most content management systems have plugins available to rewrite your URLs to a more Search Engine Friendly URL of your choosing.

Once you have your page optimized it is time to get into the world of links, be prepared to spend a lot of time thinking about links because they are one of the most important ways that an engine will decide on the trustworthyness of your site, links if they are dofollow will channel page rank from the originating website to yours, the more important that website is the more importance yours gains from being linked to from it.  If the site is relevant to your topic you will also get bonus points for relevant content, and even better the anchor text of these links should contain your keywords

So get as many links as you can, try to go for relevant on topic sites, try to have those links embedded within relevant text on the page of the donor. There are many ways of getting in links but the most tried and tested and cheapest is through the publication of high quality relevant articles which contain your anchor text links.  These article are then published to article directories and syndicated to as many other web authors as possible.

Do not be quick to offer big discounts to secure a web design job

The web site design industry is one of the most competitive around. Try to advertise for web design services and you are up against a host of competitive suppliers, one cheaper than the other. Makes you wonder how they do it sometimes. If you are determined to have a crack at the web site design business, you have more than likely been tempted to cut prices by offering big discounts and cut corners to get some orders. Experience will show though that offering big discounts and cutting prices is not the way forward to setting up a viable and sustainable web site design business. More important, it is not even necessary to cut prices to grow your web site design business.

Why not just cut prices and grab the business? You cannot have everything in this world. If you offer big discounts something must go in order to sustain the business and this does not sound like a sound business strategy, neither for your business nor for your customers. If you are cutting prices, more than likely you are compromising the quality of the web sites or the service your web site design customers should receive for their money. Even if you have a sound business model and you are able to cut cost through, for instance, outsourcing abroad it is unlikely that you will be able to offer cheap web site design services. Yet some people seem to do it.

There are dangers in offering big discounts on web site design work from the outset. First, the quality and service levels will probably suffer as we have mentioned above. Second, you are not generating enough revenue to invest into development, research, training in new web site design techniques. It is difficult to grow a web site design business without investing, much of which could come from a decent revenue from decent products and services. Third, you could be losing web site design customers who themselves avoid buying cheap stuff and would prefer to go for the more expensive product with a perception of higher quality and value.

Experience has showed that customers are very often willing to pay more for quality products and services, at least those who mean business and want to get somewhere with their web site. The fact is, the web site design market is big enough and growing fast enough and it is possible to find market segments that are willing to pay more for quality web site design. Those who advertise discount web site design will inevitably attract customers who are only willing to spend very little on their web site. These customers have little resources and will very often demand a lot at minimum cost – not the easiest customers to handle, let alone make a profit.

On the other hand, try advertising more high value web site designs with a professional web site and quality service. You will attract the same number of enquiries and orders but of higher value and you will collect more revenue for the same amount of work. Selling discount in the web site design industry is not, in my opinion, a good business strategy. Target the good customers who are not necessarily looking for the cheapest web site but who are willing to pay a bit more for a professional solution and a good customer service.
